Location & infrastructure

Bärenstein is a municipality in the Free State Of Saxony and is located in the southern part of the Erzgebirgskreis.

An uniqueness in Europe is the "Gemeinsame Mitte Bärenstein-Vejprty", which connects our municipality with the town Vejprty in the Czech Republic since 2013. The common town centre is situated right on the border of two municipalities and states, making it dissapear. Outside the town a level crossing leads across the border bridge to the Czech Republic. The railway line is in operation from May to October on weekends and holidays.

In the south, Bärenstein borders the Saxon and Bohemian ski areas at Fichtelberg and Keilberg (Klínovec).

The municipality Bärenstein does not have offical parts of the town, but the locals distinguish between Bärenstein, Stahlberg, Kühberg and Niederschlag. Bärenstein and its neighbour-municipality Königswalde build a community of administration.
